At Insurance For Texans, we love barbecue and celebration.
At the same time, we are reminded on this Memorial Day that this holiday is about more than just barbecues and picnics and an excuse to bring people together.
Memorial Day is a day to remember the soldiers who gave their lives for our country. It's also important that we reflect on what this holiday means.
The holiday began as an occasion to honor Union soldiers who lost their lives during this civil war. As such, those fallen heroes received a burial at Arlington National Cemetery and are now remembered with pride every year on Decoration Day—a federal holiday celebrated each summer Monday after May 25th (the Memorial day).
This holiday is an important part of our nation's history, and it is a day that should be observed as a day to remember the ultimate sacrifice that many men and women made and continue to make for our country.
Celebrations will take place all across the country in many forms and with many feasts.
Whatever you have planned today, enjoy.
Enjoy that cookout today. Enjoy the time at the swimming pool. Enjoy family and friends and your beverages of choice. Enjoy the time off from work and the change of pace. We have the freedom to do so.
While enjoying, take the time to spare a thought of gratitude for the freedoms that we enjoy today because of their sacrifices.
There are many holidays throughout the year where we celebrate with gusto.
For those who have served and died in the line of service, and for those families dealing or who have dealt with the loss and hurt as a result, our hearts are with you today and we thank you and your loved one for their service.
Stay True, Texas.
