Building Ordinance Coverage

Building Ordinance coverage is a common line item on Burleson Home Insurance policies. The question of what is it exactly comes up frequently. There are two main ways that we see this coverage come into play and we will outline them below.

If your home is more than ten years old, the chances are the building codes have changed since it was built. This may not necessarily mean anything to you in particular, but it can to a Burleson city inspector. If you are fortunate enough to make a claim that involves reconstructing a portion of your home, the reality is that it will require pulling permits with the city for either plumbing or electrical work. Maybe even both. If that's the case, that city code inspector can require you to bring the entire house up to current codes. That will get expensive. The Building Ordinance coverage will cover that for you rather than paying it out of your pocket!

The second main place we see this coverage used is around fires. It's not a fun subject, but it's part of our job. If your home catches fire, and we are planning on it not, the sirens will come wailing and the brave men and women on those trucks will do their best to put it out ASAP. That's the good news. The bad news is that the damage to your home may be extensive. Most cities have ordinances, or laws, that stipulate that a dwelling must be leveled to the ground if at least 2/3rds or 3/4ths of it is fully damaged. Guess what. This coverage can take care of that task so that you can start over with rebuilding your home and your life.

Bottom line is that while Building Ordinances may be a funny name, there is a reason that Insurance For Texans recommends the coverage for Burleson home owners. We simply want you to be made whole. To make sure that you do have this coverage, simply request a policy review with us today!
