October 5th, 2022 will mark the 30th anniversary of one of our favorite albums here at Insurance For Texans.

The band R.E.M cut its teeth as far back as 1980, with their breakout occurring during the middle of that decade.

They would become poster children for 80s college and alternative music, reaching their zenith in the early 90s.

Songs like Radio Free Europe, The One I Love, Losing My Religion, and Man on the Moon would mark the band's ascension from campus legends to induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In our opinion and in the eyes of fans, critics, and musicians across the world, their album Automatic For the People holds one of the best collections of songs compiled by the group in one offering.

Sure, we loved it back in the early 90s while in college and having the opportunity to spin it on the local campus station.

But as the album has aged (and we've aged along with it), like a fine wine, it is yielding some of its choicest fruit. I like to think we are too.

    What does it mean?

Band legend has it that instead of saying "You're Welcome", Dexter Weaver, proprietor of an Athens, GA eatery name Weaver D's Delicious Foods, would say "Automatic for the people" instead while serving up delicious soul food.

The band noticed the motto while eating at the restaurant during recording (a restaurant the B-52's also frequented).

"Automatic for the people" means the customers are getting what they want in a timely fashion.

We like that saying around here.

At Insurance For Texans, we too like to match good things with our clients in the form of protective policies and to have a reason to say "You're welcome".

That's good for the soul also.

What does this have to do with insurance?

On the surface, admittedly, not much.

Home, business, life, and health insurance usually don't get mentioned with music.

But, we are taking the opportunity to shoehorn in one of the best collections of music with one of our favorite topics, providing great protection to our favorite

    Texans.

Our upcoming posts will combine a bit of nostalgia with our current passion to protect you and yours.

We kick off with our take on "Nightswimming".

Here is an "out there" post with a few thoughts about "Man on the Moon".

We definitely don't want you to be like Monty, because "Monty Got A Raw Deal"

We also know that "Everybody Hurts" sometimes, and we can help you and yours when the help is needed most.

Yet, there is reason to remain encouraged. For certainly we know, "Sweetness Follows".

You certainly don't want to walk too long around "Ignoreland" when it comes to risk.

And you also want to keep alert on the path. For the "Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight".

Hopefully, these posts will serve you well and make for a better future as we partner together with a shared love for family, friends, and a bit of great music.

In advance of the anniversary of this beloved album, we take a look at why each song speaks to us, and why we think it should speak to you.

Whether you like the band R.E.M, the album, or not, we hope the upcoming collection of blogs speaks well to you, our fine Texans.

Texas is definitely the state we love, and this one goes out to you. And now worries, with us, you won't get left behind.
