We made it halfway through 2022 and now the summertime beckons.
And if you are no stranger to Texas summers, you know the drill. Batten down the hatches and crank up that air conditioner, we have some walking sauna days ahead.
If new to Texas summers, bless your heart. Our advice to you, survive and advance.
Many people escape to other states during this time, especially those promising cooler weather.
Vacations offer some respite. At the same time, your home doesn't take a vacation during these sweltering months.
And neither should your insurance coverage.
Your insurance needs can actually change during the summer months. Here are some tips to help make sure you have the right coverage in place.
1. Check your policy deductible - In case you have hurricane deductibles, they may apply if your home is damaged by high winds associated with a thunderstorm.
2. Review your policy limits - If you have made any significant home improvements or purchased any expensive items, you will want to be sure that your policy limits reflect the current value of your belongings.
3. Evaluate your home's risk for flooding - Flooding is not covered by standard homeowners insurance policies. If you live in an area that is at risk for flooding, you will need to purchase a separate flood insurance policy.
4. Check your coverage for summer activities - If you have a pool, trampoline, or other summertime activity on your property, be sure that your insurance policy provides the proper coverage in case of an accident.
5. Make sure your home is prepared for extreme heat - Extreme heat can cause problems such as burst pipes. Be sure to take precautions to prevent any issues and have your policy in place in case something does happen.
Taking the time to review your insurance coverage before the summer months will help ensure that you are prepared for anything that comes your way.
